With a similar basic concept to Magic, the A Game of Thrones collectible card game features rapid play with a remarkable amount of depth. With multiple paths towards winning and the excitement that comes from playing against multiple opponents, the game is richly textured and rewarding. The art, too, features some of the top A Song of Ice and Fire artists, such as Michael Komarck, Franz Miklos, Amok, and Martina Pilcerova. Special accessories, such as stone House cards, card coffins, and binders, can be purchased through their store. Finally, an on-line client has been created by fans with FFG’s approval.
January 2008 saw the announcement that the game would move away from its collectible roots to a new “Living Card Game” model. Features of this will include regular releases of fixed decks, a revamped organized play system, a greater focus on multiplayer gaming, and more.
