Dunk and Egg

When Roaring Studios (now Dabel Brothers Productions) set out to adapt "The Hedge Knight" to comic book, fan interest was very high indeed. Striving to be as true as possible to the source material, DB Pro managed to turn out one of the most faithful (and successful) adaptions of a prose work yet seen in comics. Pencilled by Mike S. Miller and scripted by Ben Avery from the source story, the fidelity to the work was enhanced by the involvement of Westeros.org as consultants on continuity and theme (they said immodestly). The initial mini-series featured two sets of covers, one entirely by Mike S. Miller and the other set featuring top-flight artists such as the Brothers Hildebrandt (on a special incentive cover), Ted Nasmith, Mike Kaluta, Tom Yeates, Boris Vallejo, Tom Mandrake, and Anders Finer.

Once collected into graphic novel form, the series was popular enough to warrant two miniseries. Extras included in both editions were an 8-page adaption of an excerpt from "The Sworn Sword" and a heraldic listing of the participants in the Ashford tournament. The second edition also included a number of character portraits by the fan-favorite artist, Amok. "The Sworn Sword" has also been adapted during DB Pro’s parternship with Marvel, although in mid-August it was announced that that partnership was ended with Marvel retaining the rights to the series and promising to continue publication. The status of any future Dunk & Egg adaptions is unknown.
