The Wild Cards shared-world superhero stories took bookreaders by storm when they first appeared, attracting interest among comic readers and, ultimately, comic book companies. In 1990, the first of four prestige-format comics adapting a number of the Wild Cards stories was published by Epic, an imprint of Marvel Comics. A number of artists adapted the various stories, among them Barry Kitson, Jackson Guice, Tom Yeates, and Tim Truman. Stories adapted include those written by GRRM himself, Howard Waldrop, John J. Miller, Melinda Snodgrass, Walter Jon Williams, and more.
It was announced during the summer of 2007 that a brand new, all-original Wild Cards miniseries was planned to be published via Marvel Comics and Dabel Brothers Productions. Daniel Abraham will write the miniseries, with the intention of serving as a launching point for future series. However, following the break up of Marvel’s and DB Pro’s publishing arrangement, it seems that Wild Cards will be self-published by the Dabels starting some time in 2008.
