Comic-Con Schedule

Lots and lots of “A Song of Ice and Fire”, George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones, and Wild Cards-related events at San Diego Comic Con. Below, we’ll try and pick out some of the most notable:

THURSDAY

  • 10:00 am - 12 noon: GRRM and Daniel Abraham signing copies of the Fevre Dream graphic novel. Avatar Press booth #2701.
  • 12 noon - 1:00 pm: Epic Fantasy panel with George R.R. Martin, Patrick Rothfuss andBrandon Sanderson, Room 6A
  • 1:30pm - 2:30 pm: Panelists from Epic Fantasy will be signing in autograph area AA1
  • 3:00pm - 4:00 pm: Game of Thrones panel, an hour long discussion of the HBO series with showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and actors Lena Headey (Cersei), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys), Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo), Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Nicolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime).GRRM will be moderating.
  • 4:30pm - 5:45pm: GAME OF THRONES cast and GRRM will be signing posters at the Warner Brothers booth #4545.

FRIDAY

  • 10:00 am - 11:00 am: GRRM signing copies of the DOORWAYS graphic novel at the IDW booth (#2643).
  • 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm: John Picacio and GRRM will be signing copies of the 2012 A Song of Ice and Fire Calendar in the autograph area, AA 21 I will also be signing A DANCE WITH DRAGONS and my other Ice & Fire books during this appearance.

SATURDAY

  • 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm: GRRM signing A Dance with Dragons, the other Ice & Fire books, and anything else fans care to bring at the autograph area, AA 18.
  • 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm: Tor Books will be giving away complimentary copies of Inside Straight at their booth, with GRRM there to sign it, along with Melinda Snodgrass, Daniel Abraham, Carrie Vaughn, and other members of the Wild Cards crew. They will also sign Fort Freak and any other Wild Cards books you care to present to us.
  • 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm: “Behind the Music with CW3PR: Composing Horror to Animation and Everything in Between” with Ramin Djawadi and others. Indigo Ballroom, Hilton Bayfront Hotel.

SUNDAY JULY 24

  • 10:30 am - 11:30 am: Wild Cards panel with a half dozen favorite Wild Cards writers (including GRRM) assembling to talk about the past, present, and future of the longest-running shared world series in the field.
  • 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm: The Wild Card panelists will adjourn to AA1 to sign your books.

Also of note:

  • John Picacio, artist of the 2012 A Song of Ice and Fire Calendar, will often be found at his booth #4600, and will have a limited number of the calendars on hand.
  • Daniel Abraham, author and scripter for the Game of Thrones comic book by Dynamite Entertainment, has a number of appearances. Besides his co-signing Fevre Dream with GRRM (which he adapted from Martin’s novel), he and Martin’s assistant Ty Franck will be signing their co-written book Leviathan Wakes (written as James S.A. Corey) at the Orbit booth on Friday at 3PM, and Abraham will be signing his many excellent works (including some fantasy novels we highly recommend, The Dragon’s Path and the “Long Price Quartet” beginning with A Shadow in Summer),
  • Random House, which includes GRRM’s publisher Bantam, has a bunch of events planned at Booth #1515 and will have a dragon-theme going on, with attendees able to get their picture taken on a greenscreen so a fire-breathing dragon can be added in post. They will also be offering free downloads of the first chapter of A Game of Thrones as read by Roy Dotrice.
