After collating the votes, it seems Friday, March 27 at 1500 Game Time is where the most number of participants will be able to show up. The format for the tourney is going to be the ever-popular ‘joust for love’. We’re going to say, first, that this format was probably known a couple of weeks ago so it’s not out of nowhere for people.
What’s a joust for love, you ask? It’s a tourney format in which knights bear a lady’s favor and joust “for love” of the lady. There are no set matchups. Instead, knights will challenge one another for love of their ladies. A knight might even assert that they aim to perform a specific deed—break seven lances, or joust against seven knights—as proof of their love.
To participate, a knight must carry a lady’s favor. How do you get it? Well, if you’re married or betrothed, that’s a good source. If not . . . well, you’ll have to find a lady willing to provide a favor. Note that “love” here is “courtly love”, and in a sense does not necessarily mean anything more than esteem and admiration. PCs are encouraged to RP finding a lady willing to lend her favor to their cause. We will allow, if that doesn’t work, some unnamed NPC lady of the court to provide such a favor for those who can’t managed because of time constraints or other issues. But RPing it is half the fun.
Finally, victory will be determined by the ladies of the court, with the newlywed Princess Daena having a significant say as the lady of honor. Ladies present will vote on that jouster who best exemplified boldness, chivalry, loyalty, and prowess. The champion need not be the person who unhorsed the most jousters, if they prove boorish in the eyes of the ladies.
