Renown Mechanics

Renown is the total sum of Fame and Infamy and Reputation is also calculated from Fame and Infamy. The base Fame and Infamy of each character depends on the rank of the character’s house as well as various positive and negative modifiers. Those assets and flaws that work as modifiers on Fame and Infamy may also affect the amount of Fame and Infamy gained and lost through for example +rumors. Finally, Tier is also factored in.

House Rank

The house ranks are as listed here, with the number after each house supplying both an initial base value (which is equal to rank x 10 for fame and rank x 5 for infamy) and acting as a multiplier on the positive and negative modifiers.

These are the positive modifiers that affect Fame and Infamy, drawn from Assets, some positions and Deeds.

  • Byname: 5 (move manually to negative when needed)
  • Famous: 10 (Permanent +5% to Reputation. Permanent +5% to Fame gain)
  • Famous Mentor: 5 (Permanent +5% to Reputation)
  • Mastery: 5
  • Illustrious Heritage: 5 (Permanent +5% to Reputation)
  • Reputable: 5 (Permanent +10% to Reputation)
  • Head: 10
  • Heir: 5
  • Knight: 5
  • Kingsguard: 10

Negative Modifiers

These are the negative modifiers that affect influence, drawn from Flaws.

  • Affliction: Major: 10 (Permanent -10% to Reputation)
  • Affliction: Minor: 5 (Permanent -5% to Reputation)
  • Bastard: 20 (Permanent -10% to Reputation. Permanent +10% to Infamy gain.)
  • Black Sheep: 10 (Permanent -10% to Reputation)
  • Defect: 5
  • Disfigured: 15 (Permanent -10% to Reputation. Permanent +5% Infamy gain)
