House Bywater

Fretty blue on white, three silver fish on a blue chief

General Information

Ser Jacelyn Bywater, called Ironhand, an officer of the City Watch of King’s Landing and captain of the Mud Gate, is of a lesser branch of the house and was indeed too poor to afford knighthood. He came by it only as a reward, from King Robert Baratheon, for his part in the fighting at Pyke, in which he lost his hand, at the end of Greyjoy’s Rebellion.

Spoilers

Ser Jacelyn was made Commander of the City Watch of King’s Landing after the Hand, Tyrion Lannister, stripped Janos Slynt of that office, his lordship of Harrenhal, his place on the small council, and sent to the Wall to take the black. He was promised a lordship, perhaps that of Rosby, for taking Prince Tommen to safety at the Hand’s command. However, he was killed by routing gold cloaks during the Blackwater when an arrow from an unknown quarter found his throat as he nearly turned his men back.
