Often distinguished from their junior branch by being called the red apple Fossoways, the Fossoways of Cider Hall are a proud house. Their motto is, “A Taste of Glory.” The head of the house has not yet been made clear, but other members of both branches have put in appearances. Among those of the red apple to appear have been Ser Bryan, Ser Edwyn, and Ser Tanton presently, and Ser Steffon and his squire Raymun Fossoway in the last year of King Daeron II’s reign.
Ser Steffon fought against his squire and kinsman, the recently-knighted Ser Raymun, in a trial of seven at Ashford. He was on the losing side but survived. The founding of the green apple Fossoways dates from this time, as Ser Raymun took it as his device.
Ser Bryan and Ser Edwyd Fossoway were killed at the Blackwater by the freerider Lothor Brune, who won the name Apple-eater for his deeds. Ser Tanton’s fate is unknown, but his vow made at Bitterbridge to kill the Hound in single combat was not fulfilled.
