The last member of the house to survive into the books is Ser Dontos Hollard, mockingly called the Red for his drinking excesses. He is a member of the king’s court at the Red Keep, after having been rescued from King Aerys II’s wrath following the defiance of Duskendale (whose lords, the Darklyns, the Hollards served and were inter-married with) when Ser Barristan Selmy begged the king to let the young Dontos live after the king had ordered the rest of the family slain along with the Darklyns.
The Hollards had at least one castle, now ruined. Its three towers had yellow sandstone merlons, reminiscent of the three crowns of their arms.
Ser Dontos was stripped of his knighthood after being made one of the king’s fool as punishment for appearing drunk and half-naked at King Joffrey’s nameday tournament. He had been an unlikely and apparent friend and confidant of Sansa Stark, even helping her to escape the city during Joffrey’s wedding feast and subsequent death. However, it was revealed that helped her only for the promise of gold from Littlefinger. He was murdered at Littlefinger’s command.
