General Information

Greywater Watch is roughly located in the swamps of the Neck, southwest of Moat Cailin. It is built upon one of the strange floating islands of the swamps, making it impossible to find for ravens and thus there is no maester there. Lord Howland Reed rules there, Lord Eddard’s friend and companion and the only man beside him to survive the combat between Stark’s men and three of Kingsguard. Lord Stark credited Reed with saving his life from Ser Arthur Dayne. Since the end of that conflict, Lord Reed has not left the Neck.

Lord Reed’s children are Meera, a girl of fifteen years, and Jojen, a strange boy of thirteen years.

Spoilers

Jojen has the greensight, which gives him prophetic dreams. These dreams are what brought him and his sister Meera, with their father’s agreement, to Winterfell not long before it was captured by Theon Greyjoy. They both escaped from captivity in Winterfell with Bran and Rickon Stark, the wildling Osha, and the stableboy Hodor.

The Reeds set out from Winterfell with Bran and Hodor, Jojen choosing their direction north towards the Wall, while Osha took Rickon in another direction for safety. Eventually they brought Bran safely beyond the Wall, where they accompanied him and Hodor further north with a stranger known only as Coldhands.
