The only member of the house to appear is Ser Alliser Thorne, master-of-arms at Castle Black. He was forced to join the Watch by Lord Tywin Lannister, or be killed, after the Sack of King’s Landing.
Ser Alliser was removed from his position as master-of-arms after a public confrontation between himself and the Stark bastard Jon Snow. Having had friends in court, Lord Commander Mormotnt sent him to King’s Landing to bear tidings of the return of the Others, with the hand of the wight of Jafer Flowers as proof. However, he was more-or-less rebuffed by the Hand, Tyrion Lannister, who had had an unpleasant run-in with Thorne while visiting the Wall.
Returning to the Wall, Ser Alliser allied himself with Lord Janos Slynt. With Slynt’s aid in the confusion after the disaster at the Fist of the First Men and the death of Lord Commander Mormont, Thorne was nearly able to convict Jon Snow of oathbreaking and treachery. Thorne in turn helped Lord Janos in his quest to become Lord Commander, and nearly succeeded.
