Tyrion Lannister

A golden hand in a circle of golden lions on crimson

General Information

The youngest son of Lord Tywin Lannister, Tyrion (called the Imp for his deformed, dwarfish body) was made the Hand of King Joffrey at his father’s command, and the arms are those that he bore on his shield while holding that position.

Spoilers

As Hand, he was instrumental to saving King’s Landing from King Stannis Baratheon. He fought valiantly in the battle, and was almost killed by a treacherous member of the Kingsguard. Tyrion was saved by his squire, Podrick Payne, but he lost most of his nose in the process.

He woke up some weeks later only to learn that Lord Tywin had saved the day and had taken over as Hand. Once fit, he was made Master of Coin when Lord Petyr Baelish went to the Vale to wed Lady Lysa Arryn, and then he was married himself to Sansa Stark. At King Joffrey’s death, he was accussed of the crime and was all but found guilty. His one hope, that the Red Viper would defeat Ser Gregor Clegane as his champion, failed.

Before his execution, his brother Ser Jaime freed him with the coerced assistance of Varys. When the Kingslayer admitted to the truth that Tysha, the lowborn bride Tyrion had taken at 13, was not a whore after all, Tyrion swore he would have vengeance on all of his family. He killed Lord Tywin and his mistress Shae (who had betrayed him at the trial and whom he found in Lord Tywin’s bed) before continuing his escape to the Free Cities.
