This was our first look at Lord Eddard, and quite a sight it was for fans.  He leans on Ice, the ancestral sword of the Stark’s. The Valyrian steel pattern is replicated here using the technique of pattern-welding, and you look closely you can see the irregularity of the texture of the blade. At his belt—studded with what seem to be silver wolf-heads, is a matching arming sword although its hilt is made of a plainer wood.

The garments themselves are terrific: a heavy fur cloak over a laced leather jerkin, in turn over a grey-blue quilted gambeson or surcoat.
