Gifts for the Holidays

With the holidays here, it’s time to start considering gifts for friends and family. And what better gift for a fan of George R.R. Martin’s work than something that appeals to their fandom? There’s many options out there, from books to toys to jewelry and more!

To help with some ideas, here’s a curated list of items we think any fan might enjoy:

  • House Plaques: They’re only available in the UK right now, but these house crest plaques from the Noble Collection look amazing: Stark, Lannister, Targaryen.

  • T-Shirts: The UK again seems to have gotten ahold of some very interesting shirts, with designs as yet unseen in the US (and even HBO’s EU store). From Shot Dead in the Head, these officially licensed shirts and hoodies should please even the pickiest fan.
  • Pyrrha’s jewelry range has been very well-received. We own a couple of their pieces, in fact, and can recommend them for those who like necklaces, pendants, and rings and would like to declare their allegiance in a very elegant way. They are highly wearable for any occasion. The cheapest, price-wise, are the banner necklaces, such as this Stark necklace which features the Stark words. After that come the rings such as this Lannister ring. The most expensive to date are the crest necklaces, like this Lannister crest which comes from a mould made from a wax seal. These can be bought in either silver or bronze (which looks very good, in our opinion).
  • Perhaps the person receiving gifts prefers something a bit softer? The HBO store has a cute set of plush direwolves on sale: six plush direwolf pups, and as a bonus an adult Ghost.
  • For those with a more numismatic bent, these wonderful coins of the Seven Kingdoms set from Shire Post are terrific.
  • Or perhaps cartography is more your acquaintance’s style? HBO’s created a fun magnetic map-and-marker set (Amazon.com, HBO) that’s based on the very large, heavy map-and-marker set released last year.
  • Or perhaps some toys? There’s a full set of Legacy action figures from Funko that have been getting a good deal of praise. We also think the large sculpted figures from Dark Horse (like Ser Jaime Lannister) would make an excellent gift.
  • Speaking of the holidays, there’s always a need for ornaments, and HBO has you covered with ornamental lights featuring house crests.
  • To go in a very different direction, we can’t but help mention The World of Ice and Fire (Amazon US, Amazon UK)—it’ll make quite the hefty stocking-stuffer, to say the least. This is for that fan who can’t get enough about the world and history of the story. The Lands of Ice and Fire map collection makes an excellent companion, as well!
  • This won’t be available by Christmas, but you can always show them that you’ve pre-ordered Season 4 of Game of Thrones (US, UK). As usual, the Bluray will be chock-full of interesting extras.
  • For the younger fans, a short novellete—illustrated by Luis Royo—called The Ice Dragon. Though not set in the A Song of Ice and Fire universe, it’s a fine story, almost in a fairy tale style.
  • Of course, that other new book: Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones: Seasons 3 & 4. Filled with interviews, concept art, and photographs, it’s a must for any fan interested in an insightful behind-the-scenes look at the production.
  • And finally, for the gamers out there, Game of Thrones: Episode 1, “Iron from Ice” is now out and available on multiple platforms: PC, iOS, XBox One, XBox 360, Playstation 3 & 4 (US, Europe), and Android (coming soon). We’ve reviewed it here.
