More Award Recognition for Game of Thrones

Two august television- and film-producing bodies, the Producers Guild of America (PGA) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA), have released their shortlists for their annual awards… and Game of Thrones has scored places on both!

First, Deadline Hollywood revealed the full list of nominees for the Producers Guild of America. There, we find Game of Thrones is up for the Norman Felton Award, awarded to “Outstanding Producer of Episodic Television, Drama”. Rivals for the prize include sister show Boardwalk Empire, Showtime’s Dexter, The Good Wife on CBS, and AMC’s Mad Men.

Then, via Variety, we learned that Game of Thrones is nominated by the Writers Guild of America in the “Best New Series” category, alongside Homeland and Episodes from Showtime, AMC’s The Killing (to editorialize: I’m rather surprised that the good will this show is getting from the WGA membership), and Fox’s New Girl. As Variety notes, Boardwalk Empire took this award last year. Alas, no nominations for individual episodes (BE managed two nominations) .... but, hey, it did pick up a Television Drama nom as well, besides Boardwalk Empire, Homeland, Breaking Bad, and The Good Wife.

Congratulations to the writers and producers for their work on the series!
