Network Comedies on Game of Thrones

Not one, but two acclaimed TV comedies made references to Game of Thrones last night, showing that the writers out there appear to be fans of HBO’s series. And best of all, we’ve got some clips to prove it thanks to fans on the interweb! See below for the video links to the Parks and Recreation and Big Bang Theory clips.

First up, Parks and Recreation‘s funny opening reference to the show:

And here’s the big Big Bang Theory reference, where Valyrian Steel’s authorized replica of Jon Snow’s sword, Longclaw, from the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series was treated as if it were a replica of the same sword from HBO’s show (in fact, it’s directly based on the description in the novel, and has Martin’s direct input and approval, unlike the TV show sword). No embeds here, but Twitter fan Kissdbyfire collected the three segments in which the sword featured (one of them including geek-idol actor Wil Wheaton! I wonder if he’s watched the show or read the books…): Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.

Now for Community, Robot Chicken, and Modern Family to hop on board (all right, all right, SNL can join in, too).
