Of course, Ramin Djawadi’s soundtrack (US: CD, MP3; UK: CD) is out there (and it’s quite excellent, too!). His main title theme may have been overlooked at the Emmys, but it’s inspired many, many incredible covers.
But the show itself has inspired musical artists, and music fans in general, to take it all a step further. Below, we present two of the more recent efforts that caught our attention.
“Damn It Fells Good to be a Lannister” is rather not safe for work, but the sentiment shall probably find fans (especially those with a liking for hip-hop and rap) giggling as it riffs off of the Geto Boys’s “Damn It Feels Good to be a Gangsta”:
And in a more serious vein, this video making use of Johnny Cash’s “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” and setting it to images from the series is, frankly, utterly amazing and moving. As someone noted, Cash’s ouevre has quite a few songs that would go very well indeed with the series, so finger’s crossed that others take inspiration:
