EW on A Dance with Dragons and Our (Brief) Take

Not quite a review, but James Hibberd at Entertainment Weekly shares a few thoughts on the book in the course of answering 10 questions about the book. The spoilers are mild, but they’re there, so don’t click through if you don’t want to see it!

Here’s a good quote from the piece:

Does it have a great ending?

Hmm. Can you feel satisfied and still want more? You’ll blow through the 1,040 pages. There’s several cliffhangers that will leave you longing for Book 6. Whether that constitutes a great ending or not probably depends more on your expectations.

He also ranks the series of novels, marking it as his third favorite of the five novels in the series. For what it’s worth, Linda and I are broadly in agreement with him: A Dance with Dragons is in the middle of the pack, better than some of the books, not as good as others (though which exactly those are is a bit different between the two of us!). We’ll comment in more detail on the novel after it hits the shelves.
