Meet Dunk and Egg: Casting Announced for A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS

HBO has just revealed that they have cast the two leads for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, known to fans world wide as Dunk and Egg. Peter Claffey, an Irish rugby player-turned-ctor, will be Ser Duncan the Tall. Dexter Sol Ansell has in turn been cast as Dunk’s squire Egg; Ansell’s been acting since the age of 4, and most recently appeared as the young Coriolanus in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to begin filming in Northern Ireland, the old stomping grounds of Game of Thrones, in June with production likely to last several months.

According to HBO, Claffey will be also be appearing in Netflix’s Vikings: Valhalla, which may be a first chance to see him in a medieval milieu. A year-and-a-half ago, the Irish Independent wrote a brief profile of the actor. Looking around online, he stands near 2 meters tall (6’5”), which is pretty good all considered—Dunk’s a bit closer to 7’, but you can’t have everything. Claffey’s also somewhat older than Dunk when we first meet him in “The Hedge Knight”, but a decade’s difference is nothing in Hollywood and we expect he’ll present as being more-or-less the same age as Dunk (maybe slightly older—20, instead of 16-17).
