GRRM Among EWs Entertainers of the Year

EW’s latest issue has hit shelves, with its main feature being their listing of their Entertainers of the Year. We had an inkling of the fact that EW considered George R.R. Martin among that number… and this confirms it, as popular comedic actress Amy Poehler of Parks and Recreation writes about GRRM and the novels, which she’s halfway through at present.

Poehler has met George before, at the TIME 100 Gala, where she expressed her admiration for the TV series and Daenerys Targaryen. She brings up the women of the series in her piece: “And let’s not forget the women… Sansa, Arya, Brienne, Cersei, Catelyn. If only the world were run by these women. All of them with various amounts of power, all suffering, all wiser than they are allowed to be.” And, of course, she points out the wit of Tyrion Lannister, of whom she states that he, “has some of the best one-liners I have ever read from someone about to die.”

Yet another feather in GRRM’s cap! As for the fan-chosen entertainers of the year, the poll results are also in, and GRRM did end up comfortably at second place ahead of Stephen King and James Patterson, but Suzanne Collins (author of The Hunger Games) rather ran away with it, with nearly 50% of the poll.

In any case, recognition from EW is yet another feather in Martin’s cap, who’s been on a bit of a streak—TIME’s Best Book of 2011, Goodreads Best Fantasy Book and third Favorite Book, two entries in Amazon’s Top 20 Best Books of 2011, and more.
