GRRM at ConQuest 44

Kansas City’s annual, venerable ConQuest convention is about to have its 44th(!) con from May 24th through the 26th, and as it happens, George R.R. Martin will be a guest there. He and Parris have long been supporters of this convention, which we’ve been told is one of the best fandom-organized conventions around. Many other guests will be on hand, including guests of honor Patrick Rothfuss and John Picacio (award-winning illustrator of the 2012 A Song of Ice and Fire Calendar.

Here’s the press release from the convention itself:

Kansas City, MO. (April 21, 2013) â`“ George R.R. Martin, co-executive producer of the HBO drama “Game of Thrones” and author of the international bestselling “A Song of Ice and Fire” novel series, upon which the HBO show is based, will be an attending panelist at ConQuesT 44.

The convention is being held over the Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26, at the Holiday Inn CoCo Key, Kansas City, MO near the Truman Sports Complex.

Martin will be participating in two panel discussions, an autographing session, and a live chapter reading from either his forthcoming “The Winds of Winter,” the sixth novel in his “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, or from “The World of Ice and Fire,” the companion volume to the series being released in October.

George R.R. Martin has been attending Kansas City’s ConQuesT since 1972, whenever his very demanding schedule permits. In the past he has been the convention’s Author Guest of Honor as well as its Toastmaster.

ConQuesT is the oldest enduring fantasy and science fiction convention held in the Central States. It gathers together fans and professionals with interests in the genre’s literature, artwork, films, television programming, costuming, and gaming. The annual event is sponsored by the Kansas City Science Fiction and Fantasy Society (http://kacsffs.blogspot.com).

This year’s Guests of Honor include author Patrick Rothfuss, artist John Picacio (illustrator of the 2012 A Song of Ice and Fire calendar), fanzine editor Christopher J. Garcia, author Patricia C. Wrede, editor Teresa Nielsen Hayden, and cartoonist John Kovalic.
