The Dornish court is abuzz with fresh rumors and curiosity surrounding the forthcoming appointment of an emissary to Braavos. Prince Maron has remained tight-lipped about his decision, yet it hasn’t stopped speculation from taking root and flourishing among his courtiers. In particular, it has not gone unnoticed that Mavros Uller, younger brother to the Lord of Hellholt, has held several private audiences with Prince Maron himself, as well as with Lord Toland, the previous ambassador to Braavos. Other names have been mentioned, and seen in discussions with the prince, including both of the prince’s uncles the princes Cadan and Rhodry, as well as a number of knights from houses as diverse as Santagar, Blackmont, and even Wyl, and there are those who insist he may in fact be favoring a younger man than Uller and Toland both.
Meanwhile, Ser Mavros’s bastard daughter, Samara Sand, also has sparked rumors; not so much for her presence, but rather for her absence. A moon after her return from Braavos, drawing eyes by her state of pregnancy, she departed the city once more to parts unknown. Some wondered if she was finding a motherhouse, to give birth and leave the child to the Faith, and others heard rumor that the Sealord of Braavos had given her rich gifts which she’d used to purchase a manor house on the eastern banks of the Greenblood. Regardless of the truth, the details of her departure and destination remain vague, with the most common claim—often put forward by ladies of the court—that she has retreated to the countryside for her confinement.
Curiously, a week later, Prince Rhodry and his wife Lady Tanyth, along with a modest entourage of attendants, departed Sunspear as well. No announcement was made of their plans, but most believe it is tied to Lady Samara’s withdrawal from court. But one thing seems clear enough: if Prince Rhodry was a potential candidate for emissary to Braavos, given his several past visits there both to his own purpose and on the business of the throne of Sunspear, his departure suggests he has no interest in it.
