Here Lord Eddard is preparing himself to do the deed. He’s depicted as being somewhat reluctant to do what he has to do, but duty-bound to do what is needful—he takes no pleasure in it. Ice looks fantastically massive. Notably, just before this, Sean Bean pronounces his name as, Edd-ARD… which will take a little getting used to, we admit, as I tend to pronounce it nearer to how one says “Edward” (which Eddard is basically just a variant of).
