The King Robert about to enter a rage as Eddard balks at his plans, questioning a decision he believes dishonorable. The lines here, with Robert shouting about the realm not being ruled by honor, but by fear and blood, is a prominent one in promotions, but it’s not from the text. While it’s hard to quite reconcile that sort of cynical, bloody-minded viewpoint from Robert with the Robert of the novel, it seems easy to suppose that this sort of thought is being expressed out of temper and is not actually a deeply-held belief of the king.
As we’ve noted in the past, a small statue of a Valyrian sphinx can be seen on the table at Robert’s left hand, with such sphinxes being mentioned as decorating the small council room’s chambers.
