We’re back from having spent the weekend in Northern Ireland, looking at the sites and enjoying the Winterfell Festival. Of course, while we were away, there was some Game of Thrones-related news of note that we thought we should quickly cover, including some remarks from George from the red carpet at last night’s Emmy awards. See below for the quick news roundup!
Bryan Cogman, late of Game of Thrones, has signed an overall deal with Amazon Studios to develop and write original programming for Amazon’s burgeoning Prime streaming channel. As we know from GRRM, an overall deal means that Cogman will work exclusively with Amazon while under contract… which means that the pitch he created with GRRM for a prequel is either dead in the water or at least will need a new writer and potential showrunner brought on board to continue developing it while HBO appears to be keeping five different projects up in the air.
Game of Thrones took nine Emmys over the course of the two parts of the Emmy Awards, seven of them in technical and production categories, but among those was Ramin Djawadi’s very first win for scoring. He learned about it while getting ready to perform the Game of Thrones live concert experience. Last night the acting and overall awards were held, and there Game of Thrones did less well than has been its wont, with two wins: Outstanding Supporting Actor for Peter Dinklage (his third, joining the illustrious company of Art Carney, Don Knotts, and Aaron Paul) and Outstanding Dramatic Series making it seventh nomination and third consecutive win (not counting 2017, when it was not eligible) in the category. Overall, it was nominated in 22 categories.
