A Song of Ice and Fire

As previously reported, the recent partnership of Marvel Comics and Dabel Brothers Productions has led to quite a lot of movement in DBPro’s lines of comics. Among those of interest to fans of George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” is the fact that The Hedge Knight graphic novel will be re-printed in a hardcover edition which is due to be released on December 6 (the link includes information about the release dates of quite a few of DBPro’s other excellent fantasy offerings).

GRRM’s official site has been updated with the Quill Awards nomination for A Feast for Crows we reported on while at the WorldCon, as well as the news of the World of Ice and Fire, the forthcoming companion book for the series that we will be co-authoring with GRRM.

As GRRM points out in his update, any suggestions for what you would like to see in this book should be posted on the board. As soon as we get a chance to get settled in (we just returned from Las Vegas today), we will make available a sticky topic (or perhaps even a dedicated subforum) for the purpose of posting such suggestions, and we may also add a couple of polls.

British Fantasy Award Nomination

Not only has AFFC been nominated for a Quill Award (as previously reported), it turns out its now also on the short list for Best Novel in this years British Fantasy Awards. The

A Feast for Crows Quill Award Nominations

A Feast for Crows has been nominated for this year’s Quill Awards in the categories of Best SF/Fantasy/Horror novel and Best Book of the Year (by dint of being nominated in the previous category). Congratulations to George for this achievement! As noted in the above link, this is a popular vote award, so go forth and vote!

Ice and Fire World Book Announced

Well, as the latest issue of Locus has announced this, it seems official. George R. R. Martin and Bantam have concluded a deal to publish a world book for A Song of Ice and Fire, which will provide a great amount of deal about the setting featured in A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and A Feast for Crows. It’ll be copiously illustrated by some of the best artists in the industry and by some of the fan favorites.

Oh, and George’ll have a couple of co-authors on this endeavor, by the name of Elio M. García, Jr. and Linda Antonsson.

Westeros in the Onion

The Onion has published a recent article describing Wikipedia’s recent celebration of America’s 750th year of independence. In the course of the article, it notes that Wikipedia has information concerning the original colonies that would make up the United States, among them “Narnia, the central ice deserts, and Westeros”.

Unshelved Comic Features ASoIaF

Unshelved, a comic strip that features a recommendation for a book every Sunday,  has now featured GRRM’s A Game of Thrones.

Official Site Update

GRRM’s official site has an updated “From My Readers” section featuring more fan art and pictures and an update to “News” noting that Subterranean Press has now sent its limited edition A Storm of Swords (with illustrations by Charles Vess) to the printer, with an expected ship date to customers of August or September.

Hugo Award Ballot Available

The ballot for the 2006 Hugo Awards, in which A Feast for Crows is among the nominees for Best Novel, is now available. Eligible voters are those who are registered (either as supporting or attending members) as members of L.A. Con IV, to be held in Anaheim, California from August 23rd to 27th. It promises to be the biggest Brotherhood without Banners bash ever, and GRRM will definitely be an active participant.

If you are planning to go, but aren’t yet a member, go and get that done before July 31st, which is the voting deadline for the Hugos. Note that you can get a comprehensive list of the nominees, plus links to many of the short fiction works, here.

Feast for Crows Locus Finalist

A Feast for Crows is one of the five finalists in this year’s Locus Awards. The winner has already been determined as the finalist who received the most votes from readers, but will not be announced until June.

GRRM’s official site has been updated with the announcement in “News” of Tuf Voyaging being nominated for Best Translated Novel in Japan’s Seiun Awards, the addition of Germany and Taiwanese covers for A Storm of Swords in “Covers”, and an addition to the “Kits & Castings” section of “Knights”.
