House Connington of Griffin's Roost

Two griffins combatent countercharged on red and white

General Information

The only members of the house to appear or be mentioned are the fierce head of the house Ronnet Connington (called Red Ronnet for his red beard), the Knight of Griffin’s Roost, and the dead Lord Jon Connington. Young Lord Connington was one of Rhaegar’s close companions, and was a noted warrior in his own right. After the failure of Aerys’s Hand, Lord Merryweather, to deal with the uprising against him, Lord Connington was made Hand of the King. He nearly defeated Robert, only to be defeated at Stoney Sept by the rebels.

Jon Connington was stripped of his lands and titles and sent into exile, where he is said to have died. Robert Barathoen restored the castle and some of its lands to a cousin of Connington’s upon ascending to the throne, but he kept the treasury and withheld lordship from Connington’s successor. Another Connington, Ser Alyn Connington (known as the Pale Griffin), was a famous Lord Commander of the Kingsguard.
