This is a design sketch for Ser Waymar Royce, a ranger of the Night’s Watch. Though the youngest son of the great Vale lord, Bronze Yohn Royce, he has joined the Night’s Watch with rich accoutrements that befit his station. The sword here looks like it will be heavily ornamented, to a somewhat impractical degree. We’ll see it in a later shot in all of its glory.

It’s been noted to us that a number of weapons we’ve seen date from the pilot, when they were designed to be rather more fantastical. Waymar’s sword is one of those specifically indicated to be rather more “high fantasy” in appearance than what has become the norm for the rest of the series.
