Game of Thrones

HBO's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' TV Show

Varys Teases DVD/Blu-Ray Details

With the wealth of new information on the March 6th release of the DVD and Blu-Ray Season 1 sets of Game of Thrones, including the fact that the HBO Store is offering an exclusive companion disc for those who order the DVDs or Blu-Rays via their store (which is presently offering $10 off a $100 order if you use GOTAFF20 at checkout).

And now… there’s more. Or at least, the promise of more.

This scroll from Varys, the Master of Whisperers, sealed with a lion, reveals that have been named “honorary Lannisters” (appropriately, fellow GoT fansite Winter is Coming are honorary Starks) and so are worthy of receiving some special news. To quote:

In the next few weeks, a raven from King’s Landing will arrive with vital information regarding the first season of Game of Thrones on Blu-Ray and DVD. Please be advised, this privileged communication should only be shared with fellow loyal subjects who have bent the knee and have pledged their fealty.

Consider yourselves fellow, loyal subjects!

The missive ends with a suggestion that as Lannisters, Varys thinks we should remember that we always pay our debts, and gently suggests we send him some coins for this service. Heh.

Now, what does it mean? My guess is that HBO will be teasing the DVDs and Blu-Rays starting a few weeks from now (I’m thinking January), releasing short clips drawn from the wealth of extra material. Sort of like the exclusive clip EW published yesterday. Will they take a page out of the Maester’s Path, and make puzzles or leave cryptic clues to get people to track down the clips? No clue, but it doesn’t sound unlikely. We’ll just have to wait and see.
