House Tarth of Evenfall Hall

Quartered: yellow suns and white crescents on rose and azure

General Information

Evenfall Hall is on the large island of Tarth, which lies east of Storm’s End at the edge of Shipbreaker Bay. Lord Selwyn, called the Evenstar, rules the house. He has but one child, a daughter named Brienne.

Brienne is taller and more muscular than most men, and she is called the Beauty as a mockery for the fact that her face is exceedingly plain with a too-wide mouth, thick lips, prominent and crooked teeth, and a nose several-times broken. Her skill as a warrior, however, keeps any mockery behind her back.

Spoilers

Lord Selwyn sent Brienne to serve King Renly, bringing with her the Tarth host. She proved her mettle in a great melee, defeating the Knight of Flowers to win the contest and a place as the seventh member of Renly’s Rainbow Guard. It was clear to many that she was in love with her king. When he died, she swore to take vengeance on King Stannis, though others blamed her for the murder in turn. She was sworn to serve Lady Catelyn Stark at Riverrun, who helped her escape.

Lady Catelyn made Brienne the guard to Ser Jaime Lannister as she sent him to King’s Landing to fulfill the promise made by the Hand, Tyrion Lannister, to return Sansa and Arya Stark if the Kingslayer were freed. Brienne defended Jaime ably, and learned much of his history that is little known to Westeros at large. In the end, left without anyone to follow after the Red Wedding, Ser Jaime saw to her being allowed to go where she would and gave her his Valyrian steel sword, which he called Oathkeeper. He set Brienne on the trial of Sansa Stark, to fulfill his promise to Lady Catelyn.

Brienne of Tarth searched fruitlessly for Lady Sansa throughout Crackclaw Point and some of the riverlands. She was captured by the resurrected Catelyn Stark and the remnants of Beric Dondarrion’s outlaw band, and was judged to be a traitor who was serving the Lannisters. She was given the choice of killing Jaime Lannister to prove her loyalty, or to hang. When last seen, she, Podrik Payne, and Ser Hyle Hunt were hanging from the neck.
