This is the series’s take on the Valyrian steel dagger which plays such an important part in the series. In the novels, it’s described as being unornamented and deceptively plain… but in reality, its blade is of the rare and extremely valuable Valyrian steel, while its black hilt is in fact made of dragon bone. We’ve been told that the producers asked the weapons team to make something more visually striking to highlight the importance of the dagger.

Note the book the dagger is lying on. We’re fairly certain it’s The Lineages and Histories of the Great Houses of the Seven Kingdoms, With Descriptions of Many High Lords and Noble Ladies and Their Children by Grand Maester Malleon, a notoriously dry book which is pivotal in its own way.
