I stood on this Wall “set”! In fact, I was even told when I visited in late October that they had very recently filmed this scene featuring Benjen and Jon Snow. This is a new location, and entirely new dialogue, for a brief flashback GRRM wrote for Jon’s third chapter, when Jon tries to persuade his uncle to take him ranging beyond the Wall. In the novel, Benjen emphasizes that his new family are the Night’s Watch, and his blood relationship to Jon weighs less than that. This new dialogue seems to condense that, while eliding Benjen’s sense of brotherhood with the other sworn brothers, which is interesting.
