Over the last few days, we have continued making numerous updates to the site. The most recent involve art of various kinds. Several new artists have been added to our list of artist links under Derivations and the Gallery (a merging of the former Artwork and Images sections) has seen one new but very belated addition in the form of the talented Raya Golden who exhibited her work during the LA WorldCon.
George has updated his "Not a Blog" concerning the pizza crawl he’s previously posted about. In brief, February 20th he and Parris will be in New Haven, where they mean to try out some of New Haven’s most famous pizza establishments, and George has invited his readers in the area to join him. What he’s looking for now is for people who are "in" to indicate this in comments, preferably with an actual name and other such information attached. He asks for comments to be solely about the pizza crawl on this particular post, to make it easier to organize the outing.
Visitors to the site may or may not have noticed a lot of things changing of late. We are finally hard at work on getting all content on the site handled dynamically through ExpressionEngine, which will make it easier to update, easier to indicate changes to existing materials and easier to search.
Some of the major changes done just recently are an overhaul of all of All Sorts of Weird Stuff (for example, the various licensed products and the artist links now reside in a wiki called Derivations) and changes to the FAQ and the Prophecies under the Citadel.
We are also working on some major changes to A Ring of Ice and Fire (the current ring code will be exchanged for something spam proof) and we also expect to turn the Artwork section into a proper dynamic gallery quite soon.
GRRM’s official site has been updated with new entries and pictures in the “Life and Times” section, detailing his years in Chicago and Dubuque.
The gentlemen at Greenhorn, Paul and Damon, have decided to weigh in on the issue of author’s blogging about things they’re interested in which fans aren’t necessarily interested in with this funny comic featuring GRRM.
GRRM’s official site has been updated with a lengthy “News” update concerning the big announcement that “A Song of Ice and Fire” has been optioned as a televised drama by HBO. George goes into some more details about how this came to be, his previous experiences with queries about the rights to the series, and his level of involvement in the development and production process (not daily, as his priority remains the remaining novels in the series).
Marvel Comics has put out its soliciations for April 2007, and among them is The Hedge Knight 2: The Sworn Sword which is being produced by Dabel Brothers Productions.
An image of the cover by Renato Arlem can be seen here. The creative team from The Hedge Knight (recently re-released in a gorgeous hardcover format), Ben Avery and Mike S. Miller, are once again working together to bring “The Sworn Sword” to life.
Variety and CHUD.com report that HBO has acquired the rights to turn George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” into a dramatic series! The plan is for each season to cover one novel. In the first season, George is set to script one of the episodes himself, with the rest written by the executive producers, David Benioff (“Troy” and D.B. Weiss (“Halo”).
This is a major step towards bringing the series to the screen, but it should be noted that no production date has been set, and questions such as where the series would film are still open. Essentially, the series has been optioned by HBO as a possible prospect for production in the future.
George’s S.O., Parris, has confirmed the news here, and even discusses some of the dreamcasting.
GRRM’s official site has been updated with new posts to the “Not a Blog”. Of particular interest for fans in the New Haven, Connecticut is this post, in which George mentions his plans to check out some of New Haven’s most renowned pizza establishments on February 21st and then invites fans in the area to join him.
GRRM’s official site has been updated with news of the fact that the latest entry in the Wild Cards series, Inside Straight, has been delivered to the publisher. The news item includes a full list of the stories in the volume, including a story titled “Crusader” written by GRRM, as well as the next title in the series, Busted Flush.
A blast from the past has been added to the SSM collection, thanks to Tony Tellado of Sci-Fi Talk. He has posted a radio interview he conducted with GRRM back in November of 1996, while he was at work on A Clash of Kings and when he supposed the series would be done in four. There’s a veritable feast of information regarding the situations with Testors, thanks to Tom Meier and his blog, The World According to Tom.
GRRM’s official site has been updated with information on Subterranean Press’s forthcoming release of the limited edition, Thomas Canty-illustrated A Feast for Crows.
To follow up on a recent item, Tom Meier has clarified that just yesterday he was informed that Testors still had plans to release the wargaming miniatures. His remarks about the uncertain future of Testors products then specifically refers to the 54mm limited edition figures, perhaps due to the great deal of difficulty Testors has had in shipping them undamaged.
