House Mallister of Seagard

A silver eagle displayed on indigo

General Information

Seagard is a strong castle north of Riverrun on Ironman’s Bay, near the Cape of Eagles, that was built to watch the sea for the approach of ironborn reavers. The Booming Tower is named for the great bronze bell within which was used to call in the townsfolk and farmers to the safety of the castle. The bell has been rung only once in three hundred years, during Greyjoy’s Rebellion. Rodrik Greyjoy led his father’s ships to assault Seagard but was slain beneath the walls by Lord Jason Mallister. Their motto is, “Above the Rest.”

Lord Jason, a formidable warrior, had cut down three of Rhaegar’s bannermen at the Trident during Robert’s rebellion. His heir is Patrek Mallister.

Spoilers

Lord Jason and his son both took part in the tournament in honor of the new Hand, Lord Eddard Stark, and did very well, unseating Ser Aron Santagar and two or three others. He was unhorsed before he could reach the final four. Lord Jason was for awhile forced to stay near Seagard as Riverrun was besieged, but joined with Robb Stark to lift the siege.

He helped send Theon Greyjoy on his embassy to his father at Pyke and then was given command of the defense of several key fords along the Red Fork when the Lannisters attempted to force a crossing. Before the Red Wedding, he brought the news of Balon Greyjoy’s death and the reappearance of his brother Euron Crow’s Eye, and then escorted Lady Maege Mormont and Galbart Glover to Seagard to take ships towards the Neck and the crannogmen. His son Patrek was among those at the Red Wedding, but his fate is not clear. Seagard yielded to Black Walder Frey after a brief resistance.
