This is pretty cool: George R.R. Martin has signed an overall deal with HBO, according to Deadline’s Neelie Andreeva.
What does that mean? Per the article:
... has signed a two-year overall deal with the pay cable network.
Under the pact, Martin will continue as co-executive producer on Game Of Thrones, whose Season 3 premieres March 31. Additionally, he will develop and produce new series projects for the network.
Will this mean we’ll definitely see a new series, mini-series, or film from GRRM? Not necessarily—deals like this turn on many factors, and many of them end up with scripts and outlines that never quite gel.
But the success of the show and the novels, and Martin’s credentials in television, make this something of a no-brainer for them. The question I’m most curious about is whether GRRM and HBO already have an inkling of what they might be seeing develop out of this deal. Will GRRM spear-head adaptations of Armageddon Rag or Tuf Voyaging? Or is he going to develop all-new properties for the cable network?
