Calendar Update

The calendar has been updated with dates for George R. R. Martin’s appearances in Spain. He says more dates may be added, and that dates for events in Portugal are forthcoming.

Forum Outage

The server hosting the forum appears to have gone down at some point, and all services (including the forum) were down. Now some of them have started up again, suggesting there was some sort of crash, but unfortunately the Apache server that allows web access seems to be down still. We’ve notified the system administrator, and with any luck the forum will be up soon.

Official Site Update

GRRM’s official site has been updated with a two posts to his "Not a Blog" noting the release of the second issue of Wild Cards: The Hard Call comic book series from Dabel Brothers Productions and updates on the progress of two anthologies he’s editing with Gardner Dozois, the cross-genre Warriors and the Jack Vance tribute Songs of the Dying Earth.

Official Site Update

GRRM’s official site has been updated with a new “Not a Blog” post concerning progress on A Dance with Dragons. He has been working steadily on it, but it has not been progressing as quickly as he hoped. He does note he’s finished two chapters, one of which features a character previously not associated with the book. He’s also making a lot of forward progress on the Dany chapters.

Valyrian Resin Update

Valyrian Resin has now announced via their blog that the first wave of resin busts—the Hound, Ned Stark, and Daenerys Targaryen—are now in production, and should be arriving for distribution domestically in late July. They also state that they’ll be present at the San Diego Comic Con, hopefully with the resins, as well as with sneak peeks of the next wave of figures.

Another Benioff Interview

Recently, David Benioff was the subject of a Q & A with New York magazine. At the end, when asked what he’s working on, he again states he’s working on the A Song of Ice and Fire series for HBO, which he describes as “The Sopranos in Middle-Earth” (although with the caveat that that’s a “crappy” explanation). He also expresses his love of fantasy.

Official Site Update

GRRM’s official site has been updated with information on Busted Flush in the “News” section, including cover art and the various stories and authors involved.

Tuf Voyaging Limited Editions

Neil from Clarkesworld is offering up his remaining inventory of the Tuf Voyaging limited editions published by Meisha Merlin and signed by GRRM at a reduced price. It’s a great bargain, for a book featuring a cover by Michael Komarck and interior illustrations by Janet Aulisio. For more information, check the linked post.

Another Benioff Interview

In the course of this interview, David Benioff—show-runner on the HBO-optioned A Song of Ice and Fire series presently in development—mentions that in his opinion George R. R. Martin is one of the finest writers currently working. The interview focuses on Benioff’s writing and latest novel, and there’s no news on the HBO series, but it’s good to see the high regard in which he holds GRRM.

Green Ronin Podcast

The latest Green Ronin podcast discusses both the A Song of Ice and Fire Role Playing Game and the Wild Cards Campaign Sourcebook, starting at the 22 minute mark. Among other things mentioned are the forthcoming Quick Start Rules for the Ice and Fire game, which will be made available for Free RPG Day, the great interest the game drew from retailers at the GAMA Trade Show, and George’s involvement in approving art that fits his vision of the series.

Dying of the Light Limited Edition

Via Subterranean Press, we learn that they will be producing a limited edition of George R. R. Martin’s first novel, Dying of the Light, with illustrations by Tom Kidd. Also mentioned is the fact that Kidd will be illustrating Subterranean’s edition of Songs of the Dying Earth, co-edited by GRRM and Gardner Dozois.
