Audiobook of Dreamsongs

GRRM has posted on his "Not a Blog" that an audiobook will be produced of Dreamsongs (Volume 1Volume 2), the massive and exceptional collection of a large part of the body of George’s short fiction from his earliest days to the present. A number of different readers will be involved, and most fascinating of all is that George himself will be reading the interstitial introductions to each section of the book. These are some of the best parts of an already-great collection, thanks to the autobiographical insight into George’s life and work.

Note that the "Not a Blog" entry also includes word on A Dance with Dragons, including semi-spoilerish information.

Official Site Update

GRRM’s official site has been updated. The "Ice & Fire Update" notes that work continues on A Dance with Dragons, with some storylines going well and others will need rewriting before the book is done. George also discusses the fact that the updates have not exactly achieved what he hoped they would achieve in terms of reducing the flow of e-mails asking about the book, so he will no longer post any updates until he has completed the book. "From My Readers" also has more entries from fans. Finally, the "Books for Sale" section has been updated with the fact that GRRM has several copies of Meisha Merlin’s A Game of Thrones numbered limited edition for sale.

HBO to Adapt A Song of Ice and Fire

Variety and CHUD.com report that HBO has acquired the rights to turn George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” into a dramatic series! The plan is for each season to cover one novel. In the first season, George is set to script one of the episodes himself, with the rest written by the executive producers, David Benioff (“Troy” and D.B. Weiss (“Halo”).

This is a major step towards bringing the series to the screen, but it should be noted that no production date has been set, and questions such as where the series would film are still open. Essentially, the series has been optioned by HBO as a possible prospect for production in the future.

George’s S.O., Parris, has confirmed the news here, and even discusses some of the dreamcasting.
