George R. R. Martin’s official site has a new post on “Not a Blog”, concerning his forthcoming travels which begin with a trip to Fargo for a convention this weekend, followed by his flight out to the U.K. two days after he returns from the event. He is looking forward to seeing Marrakesh after the Irish leg of his production visit. He also notes that he’ll be away from football much of that time, and expects to be back home sometime around Thanksgiving.
GRRM provides tentative signing dates in Ireland, in the run up to his visit for some of the filming of the pilot episode of Game of Thrones. He writes that on November 3, he’ll sign at Eason’s Bookstore in Belfast at 1 PM, and that David Benioff, Dan Weiss, and possibly some of the cast may attend the signing. There’s also a second signing on the 5th, at 5 PM, at Eason’s on O’Connell Street in Dublin. These are, again, tentative dates and not yet set in stone.
John Anealio has added the 20th in his series of original songs inspired by science fiction and fantasy. In this case, it’s his rendering of Neil Gaiman’s response to a fan’s question regarding George R. R. Martin’s writing.

As posted at George R. R. Martin’s “Not a Blog”, a thief or thieves broke into his office during a two hour period in which he was away, aided by the fact that there’s currently construction going on to expand the space to make room for his library. Fortunately, no one was harmed, and for the most part the objects taken are replacable. Most upseting for GRRM is the loss of a sword that was given to him by fans. As far as A DANCE WITH DRAGONS goes, other than having the computer monitor knocked down, the computer with it is fine; GRRM also keeps backups on disk, so even if the computer had been taken, it would not have presented any real problem as far as the manuscript goes
GRRM’s official site has been updated with a “Not a Blog” post concerning George’s participation in a fundraiser for the Barack Obama campaign. He, along with hundreds of other authors including Michael Chabon, Stephen King, Ursula K. Le Guin, Garrison Keiller, Amy Tan, and Jonathan Lethem are contributing packages of autographed books that will be randomly distributed to donors. His own contribution to the fundraiser includes some twenty books.

Via “Not a Blog, George R. R. Martin reports that he’s landed safely in Europe, but was unable to complete A Dance with Dragons before taking his trip. Beginning July 1st, he will make a series of appearances in the Iberian peninsula, beginning with three dates in Lisbon before travelling across Spain. More details about specific events may be found in the July event calendar.
