Barnes & Noble has invited GRRM to take part in their “Center Stage” on-line forum, where users can pose questions to the author and talk among themselves at the same time. He will answer select questions each day, over the course of the five day event. More information can be found here. The event will have a special emphasis on Wild Cards: Inside Straight, but his other works can be discussed, as well as his work in television. The forum goes live on Monday, April 14th and continues through to the 18th, but users may already start to discuss and pose questions here. Registration is required.
George R. R. Martin and his partner Parris have placed a number of interesting items up on Ebay in support of the Match it for Pratchett fund, an attempt to match Terry Pratchett’s £500,000 donation towards Alzheimer’s research following his announcement that he had been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Among the auctioned items is a limited illustration of Fevre Dream, the A Game of Thrones Deluxe RPG, autographed copies of The Ice Dragon and Wild Cards: Inside Straight, and galley proofs of Pratchett works such as Good Omens (written in collaboration with Neil Gaiman) and Only You Can Save Mankind.
GRRM has made a series of posts on his “Not a Blog”, urging fans who are members of the 2008 Worldcon in Denver to nominate for the Hugo Awards. He also discusses several of the awards, suc as the John C. Campbell Award for Best New Writer, Best Artist, and Best Editor. If you have a membership but haven’t yet nominated, the deadline is March 1st. Online voting is available.
Inside Straight, the long-awaited new entry into the Wild Cards series, has just hit the shelves. With a number of positive early reviews already in its favor, it looks like it’s going to be a great new start to one of the best and longest-running shared world anthology series out there. GRRM has been informed that Semana Negra, a literary and cultural festival in Gijón, Spain, has had its starting date moved back from the 4th to the 11th of July. George and Parris will both be present at the event for roughly a week, and certainly hope to see and meet as many fans at possible at the location. A good place to check for updates and discussions of fan activities is the ASoIaF forum, specifically this thread. If you know any European fans, especially from the Iberian peninsula, make sure they’re aware of this opportunity to see George not only in Gijón, but probably also in Madrid and Barcelona while he’s there.
GRRM’s official site has been updated with a new sample chapter (Jon’s first chapter) and a new update on the progress of A Dance with Dragons. In brief: the book is not done, but currently GRRM has set the goal of attempting to get it done and delivered by the summer. Moreover, he reveals that he’s adding a point of view character who has never had a POV before, and that it is one of the characters released in the first batch of miniatures from Dark Sword Miniature, which are pictured on the News page.

Miller in a DC comic book that is now called Salvation Run and is being written by another writer, a mention of the forthcoming release of Inside Straight ,and a brief mutter regarding recent football games.

GRRM’s official site has been updated with the official announcement for Songs of the Dying Earth, a Jack Vance tribute anthology edited by George and Gardner Dozois. The announcement confirms the publishers as Tor and HarperCollins Voyager, and indicates that the Subterranean Press limited edition will feature illustrations by Charles Vess. GRRM intends to contribute a story, but it will not be written until after A Dance with Dragons is completed. Publication is expected for some time in 2009.

Hot on the heels of the news that George R. R. Martin and Gardner Dozois were editing an anthology with the title of Warriors, news has just slipped via Dan Simmons that they’re putting together a second anthology, Songs of the Dying Earth featuring stories set in Jack Vance’s Dying Earth setting.
According to this interview with Robin Hobb, she’ll be contributing to an anthology titled Warriors edited by Gardner Dozois and George R.R. Martin. She indicates that the anthology won’t be published for at least a year, however, so it seems it’s in the early stages yet.
