Take the Black Event Reports

It sounds like the Union Square Bluray launch event was a great success, with many fans turning up to share the experience that HBO put on with the help of Best Buy and Campfire!

See below for a few photos from the event, as well as reports from the good folks at the UNSpoiled! Podcast and fellow early entry winner Christine Cemelli:

Christine has provided us a write up of some of the key details from the event, convering everything from the music to the food to the (rather amazing-seeming) ice sculpture:

Direwolf Ice Sculpture:  Fans got to see a direwolf being sculpted in ice as they waited for the midnight release on the line. It was easily viewable on the sidewalk and many passing cars and pedestrians stopped by to view the sculpture. It was really fascinating to see it take shape: it was unloaded in a shape that vaguely resembled an animal, but slowly started to look like a Direwolf. In fact I heard many fans saying it looked like a Bear at first, but at the end it was unmistakably a direwolf. The sculpture was going to be left up until about 1am when Best Buy closed, and then it was going to be disassembled.

Inn by the Crossroads Food: The food served from Game of Thrones was fantastic and consisted of:
Mini Honeyed Chicken Pies
Mulled Cider
Pease Porridge
Oatcakes w/ Jam & Cheese
Berry and Sweet Cream Shooters

Take the Black Oath: Fans were able to Take the Black which was recorded and later will be posted on (http://mywatchbegins.com/ ). Fans were able to don a replica of the Nights Watch cloak when taking the oath.

Jason Yang played numerous songs from the Game of Thrones soundtrack most notably the theme song and the rains of castamere. He performed twice despite the freezing temperatures, and did a wonderful job. *There were other musicians backing him up, as well as a singer for the Rains of Castamere.

At around 11pm HBO employees invited everyone inside the Best Buy to assemble and receive their gift bags and enter a contest. The giftbag contained a Game of Thrones scarf (varying houses, I received House Stark), and a cookie which read #TaketheBlack. For the contest every fan was given a scroll from the Nights Watch-3 of which were winners. The prizes were a Dragon’s Egg necklace, direwolf book ends, and a Game of Thrones replica Iron Throne.
Inside the store there were house sigil banners as well as Jon Snow’s sword and the costume he used during shooting.

Thanks for that report, Christine!
