10 Years of the World of Ice and Fire: Day 5

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s image reveal, the celebration of the 10th anniversary since the publication of The World of Ice and Fire continues, and Rudolf Hima did a fantastic job giving fans—and us—another dragon. This time, it’s the young dragon Tyraxes, the dragon of Joffrey Velaryon, who on House of the Dragon is much younger and much smaller at this point in time than he is in the books.

The Dragonpit is, once more, the scene of this image. We think Rudolf did a fantastic job of capturing the magical hue of the dragon’s fire, a feature that George has described but which the TV shows have not made use of so far.

10 Years of The World of Ice and Fire: Day 2

The 10th anniversary celebration for The World of Ice and Fire continues, with a companion of sorts to our previous image, as we look at another dragon from the Dance. This one seems to have disappeared entirely from House of the Dragon, though it was obliquely referenced in the first season, but we always had a bit of fondness for it. Here is the wild dragon known as the Grey Ghost, a shy creature that kept away from men, and preferred fish to anything else, beautifully rendered by artist Rudolf Hima:

Westeros.org on Episode 6: Smallfolk (with a side of Dragon Discussion)

Another episode aired, and we’re rapidly approaching the end of the second season of House of the Dragon. As usual, Linda and I have posted a video recapping the episode and discussing its deviations from the source material in Fire and Blood, illuminating background that may not be obvious to viewers, and some dragon lore.

And, speaking of dragon lore, a lengthy post on dragons, their legs, and their habits from GRRM got a lot of attention almost two weeks ago. Given that some of what he talks about seems related to House of the Dragon, we’re going to add some of our own thoughts ... following the video, and the extras that HBO released around the episode.

Westeros on Episode 5: Regent

We’ve been remiss to share that we have posted our video recapping the 5th episode of House of the Dragon, “Regent”, written by Ti Mikkel (fans may recognize her as an assistant to none other than GRRM himself, who has been in the writer’s room from the early days). It’s a very political-maneuvering filled episode, and we dig in to the deviations from Fire and Blood as well as some bits of background and dragon discussion.

You can see the video below:

Dragon Concept Art from House of the Dragon

HBO’s official Game of Thrones social media channels have awoken to unleash the first concept art from House of the Dragon, featuring designs for two un-named dragons. We have some thoughts on just who they may be below…

The depiction of this dragon suggests it’s a young one, more similar in size to Daenerys’s dragons in the first half of GAME OF THRONES. By its coloring, we’re guessing this is a concept for Sunfyre, also known as Sunfyre the Golden.
