Hunter’s Run began life as “Shadow Twin”, a novelette that Gardner Dozois had worked on for a time but couldn’t complete it, so Dozois brought on GRRM to help him and together they took it further ... but not far enough. After years of occasionally showing it to other authors to see if someone else thought they could help them finish it, Daniel Abraham was invited to take a crack at it (with, according to Daniel, these words from GRRM: “So, Daniel. How would you feel about a three-way with two old, fat guys.”) After the novelette was published at Scifi.com back in 2004 (you can find the Internet Archive version of it here), the three decided to expand on it, retitling it Hunter’s Run when it came out as a novel in 2007.
