Activity & Quota

Given the increased activity of late, we have taken a closer look at those PCs who are set as Restricted, Limited or Elite. Those roles do come with more of an expectation of activity and roleplay leadership but when there is less activity that is not always reasonable to expect players to uphold.

Players may of course notice that some very inactive PCs remain in such roles. We have a soft spot for those who were on board even before the beta, but naturally we do not want this to impact the options for other players. Anyone left in a high profile role even though they are inactive are only allowed to stay in that role if it is the kind of character we would never let another PC have anyway. Furthermore, if they also have a tier that is under quota, they are not counted against the quota.

On a similar note, when Staff members play more than one character of quota-restricted tier, only one of the characters are counted as taking up a slot.

Tier Quota Status

-There is currently (at the time that this message is posted; for up-to-date information, see +CDB/QUOTA) 6 slots for tier III characters and 5 slots for tier II characters available. As some of these slots just opened up, there will be a 5 day request period from the date of this announcement. If the slots are not taken within 5 days, they will remain open and available on a first come, first serve basis. Please see the quota helpfile for further information about how this works.

Login for Logs and Wiki

If you would like to submit logs to the webpage or edit the player wiki, you need to get an account for the website setup. To get this done, contact Nymeria (via page, +mail or email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) and give your desired account name (this should not be your character name), password and the email you want to be registered with. Once your account has been setup you will get the address to the login page as well.

Once logged in you will be able to submit logs via the submission form linked off the logs page. A submitted log will not appear until it has been checked over by Nymeria or Balerion, so it may take a day or two to show up. Its important that the instructions on the logs page are followed closely, so that only a minimum of additional editing is needed from the Admin.

You will also be able to contribute entries to the player wiki. If you have any questions about what sort of content should go into the wiki, contact Nymeria or Balerion.

NPC Usage

The file on proper NPC usage has been updated, please make sure to read it:

the helpfile on NPCs.

We feel that lately we have seen some NPC usage that does not conform to these rules, with NPCs being used more extensively than has been approved and with no updates being submitted.

Players need to keep in mind that because of how the character system works on Blood of Dragons it is crucial that characters submitted into the CDB are kept updated. If the player of a knight regularly uses his squire as an NPC and establishes personality traits and relations for the squire, yet never submits any updates, a new player may apply for that squire without any knowledge of these things and may CG the character in a totally different way, only to be told when he starts playing that he is doing it wrong.

We want to give players more freedom to use NPCs than we had originally envisioned, but this can only be done if players take care of their end of the bargain by not going beyond approved usage and by providing all relevant updates.

Spoiler Policy

We are hoping for more players as a result of the HBO series, and chances are that those players will not have read the books. In light of this, we are going to be temporarily changing our policy on spoilers.

The new policy will be that spoilers for any of the books or any of the episodes of the TV show should not be discussed on any channel except the Spoilers channel. When discussing the books or the TV show in a room, give advance warning so that those who wish can leave.

That said, however, we hope new players will understand that this is a policy change and that there will undoubtedly be slip-ups. New players will have to be proactive in letting people know if they haven’t read the books, but please make sure to do so in a friendly fashion.

CDB Updates

We want to keep the CDB from becoming entirely static by making regular updates to the status of the NPC population with things such as betrothals, marriages, births and deaths. Our initial plan was to do a regular review of the CDB where we go through it and make various changes. For houses with PC members, the idea was then to give them a heads-up regarding changes that we’d like to see in the next few months, and to then let them play it out.

However, doing these regular reviews has proven to be something we just don’t have the time for, so we would love some player input. If you have any suggestions for CDB changes along the lines previously mentioned, let us know. In particular, betrothals that should probably have resulted in marriages or pregnancies that should have happened or should have come to term are things we’d love to be alerted about.

SP and XP Awards

Based on the nominations for October, an SP has been awarded to Aurana. Experience Points (XP) were awarded to Elmer, Farin, Jorian, Luthor, Reyna, and Sarmion.

For more information concerning the system, see +HELP ADVANCEMENT. For information about how to use story points or experience points you’ve earned, see SYSTEM ADVANCEMENT.

SP and XP Awards

Based on the nominations for August, one Story Point (SP) each has been awarded to Luthor and Reyna. Experience Points (XP) were awarded to Aurana, Burton, Dagur, Dormund Elmer, Ethos, Farin, Galwell, Samara, Rhodry, and Tancred.

For more information concerning the system, see +HELP ADVANCEMENT. For information about how to use story points or experience points you’ve earned, see http://www.westeros.org/BoD/Helpfiles/Category:System::Advancement/

SP and XP Awards

Based on the lack of nominations for July, no Story Point (SP) has been awarded this month; we hope to give out two SP next month, however. Experience Points (XP) were awarded to Luthor, Reyna, Dagur, Farin, and Joleta.

For more information concerning the Advancement system (how to use SP and XP, how to nominate, etc), see +HELP ADVANCEMENT and SYSTEM ADVANCEMENT.

Character Creation

Accounts can now be created at the login screen. These accounts will have a VISITOR flag that restricts them in much the same way that a Guest is restricted, but with a couple of important differences:

First off, to start with they will not be able to leave the Godswood (we may change this if it turns out we can accomplish certain other code changes, to allow them to at least visit the other OOC areas). Secondly, they will be able to use the +mail and +bb system and they will be able to join any other channels than what they start out with (Newbie and Connections). We are hoping this means they will be more useful for potential players who want to talk to current players before deciding which character to apply for.

It will take us a while to update all relevant files to include this information and to catch all the spots on the game where information that might now be outdated exists. If you see a Visitor connecting and asking questions about the game, please help out by informing them that they need to apply for a character from the CDB before they can start roleplaying, as we are expecting that it may confuse people into thinking they can create any character they want.

SP and XP Awards

Based on the nominations for May, one Story Point (SP) has been awarded to Reyna. Experience Points (XP) were awarded to Alyse, Ethos, Farin, Pennei, Sarmion, and Stevyn for their contributions to the game.

For more information concerning the system, see +HELP ADVANCEMENT. For information about how to use story points or experience points you’ve earned, see http://www.westeros.org/BoD/Helpfiles/Category:System::Advancement/

Planning the Future

Now that we’ve gone through the death of Daeron II and the coronation of Baelor I, we’d like to invite players to participate in helping us figure out what sort of future events—small or large scale, short term or long term—they’re interested in seeing take place on the game, and being a part of. We’d love your input! We already have some ideas and plans sketched out, but we’re always happy to develop more. We’re not necessarily looking at individual personal plots (though we’d be glad to hear about those, too), but just ideas for things you’ve thought before, “That was cool,” or “That would be cool.”

Bear in mind that we are bound by canon in regards to some things—Baelor will not be dying before his allotted time—so there are limits to what can be done. However, there’s a vast swathe of history out there yet to be made, and we’re looking forward to exploring it with you. On a related note, Dorne’s going to be the most wide-open area in terms of larger-scale events, and it’s an excellent place for those who want to have a somewhat freer hand in terms of plans and plotting. It won’t be a free for all—we still do know certain things—but it’s even less written about than the rest of the Seven Kingdoms.

Please feel free to contact us via e-mail at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address), or via +mail on the game, with your ideas, suggestions, and questions about future plans on the game. Or check the BoD forum, where this post will be archived, and start discussing it there.
